OFFER NEGOTIATIONS

START THE CONVERSATION

Remember, negotiations are normal and expected. Express your gratitude and your desire to discuss the offer in more detail.

“I’m so excited about this job and the company and I would love to discuss a signing bonus or stock options to get closer to my compensation expectations based on my value in the current market.”

NO EMAIL NEGOTIATIONS

Phone, zoom, or in person, not email! Never email your numbers, and if they ask you over email, a possible response is:

“Would love to chat about that! When would work for you to set up a quick call?”

EMAIL FOLLOW-UP

Email them, thank them for their time, mention that they accepted your offer (include the numbers), and tell them you are excited to accept the offer in writing.

ALWAYS SAY YOU'RE RECRUITING MULTIPLE PLACES

In their eyes, no matter what the reality is, this is not your only offer.

"I'm in the process of recruiting for a few other companies."

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Your network will be the most accurate source of information, but additional resources include:

Glassdoor (glassdoor.com)

Reddit (reddit.com)
